How its done….

July 20, 2018July 18, 2018 ~ serenpapercuts ~ 2 Comments

I finally have video features and can share with you a time-lapse of the cutting process. These videos condense a few hours work into a few moments and I love watching them as when I'm working it never looks like this to me. This is a cut I made two years ago but I'll post … Continue reading How its done….

Flaming June

July 18, 2018 ~ serenpapercuts ~ Leave a comment

I can't believe its been a month since my last blog and what a month of sunshine we have had. Record breaking temperatures and a garden desperately in need of rain after weeks of glorious sunshine. Its been hard to get down to work with so much loveliness outside the studio window. Papercutting doesn't lend … Continue reading Flaming June

Pleasure in small things

May 11, 2018 ~ serenpapercuts ~ Leave a comment

LAST weekend's Bank Holiday brought us the most glorious hot weather and sensibly we made the most of it. The boys and I went to Bury and enjoyed an ice cream in the Abbey Gardens, which were packed with people, colour and blossom.  And my parent points went sky high when I agreed to a … Continue reading Pleasure in small things

New shoots.

May 1, 2018 ~ serenpapercuts ~ Leave a comment

I can't believe its May already - almost halfway through the year. This month my eldest turns 16 and does his GCSEs, we open our Swedish house for the summer (hurrah! see more on our house blog here  ) and I'm busy busy at work and in the garden, getting things potted up and hardened … Continue reading New shoots.

Affordable art versus death cleaning..

April 26, 2018April 23, 2018 ~ serenpapercuts ~ Leave a comment

A few weeks ago I topped up my stock in a few of the local galleries. After Christmas is a difficult time for artists and stockists - January and February can be flat months for sales as people turn their backs on spending for a few weeks while the bank balance gets back to normal. … Continue reading Affordable art versus death cleaning..

What good designs go bad…

April 24, 2018 ~ serenpapercuts ~ Leave a comment

I'm not perfect and neither is my work. Sometimes things just don't go to plan and when that happens there's nothing you can do but shrug and move on. Today I decided to finish a hand cut I'd started a few weeks ago. It's been a few weeks since my last hand cut so this … Continue reading What good designs go bad…

Back to basics

April 23, 2018 ~ serenpapercuts ~ Leave a comment

Well the glorious weather was wonderful while it lasted but today the clouds are back which means its out of the garden and back into the studio. Although I love the day job its actually quite nice to take a break from it and do something different. Working from home has lots of benefits but … Continue reading Back to basics

At last…Spring arrives!

April 17, 2018 ~ serenpapercuts ~ Leave a comment

After the coldest March in years and weeks of grey, murky skies, this week sunshine and springtime has finally arrived here in Norfolk. Thank heavens! For weeks I've been busy planting seeds in the greenhouse or on windowsills indoors with no end in sight to the cold winds and rain that have made it impossible … Continue reading At last…Spring arrives!

Forest, field and sky.

March 19, 2018 ~ serenpapercuts ~ Leave a comment

Forest Field and Sky: Art out of Nature returned to BBC iPlayer earlier this month and once again I was captivated by the beautiful natural art it showcased. I love the idea of art outdoors, whether its ephemeral and short-lived or something created to outlast its maker and give pleasure to generations to come. Dr … Continue reading Forest, field and sky.

Meanwhile, in the garden..

March 19, 2018 ~ serenpapercuts ~ Leave a comment

IT's hard to believe its a month since my last post and since then we've been snowed in thanks to the Beast from the East, which brought bitter winds and at least 10cms of snow. Snow returned again on the weekend but it was the Siberian winds which caused me the most discomfort as the … Continue reading Meanwhile, in the garden..

Playing with stamp cutting. I’m hoping to make some pretty notelets with these, just waiting until my sore thumb comes out of its plaster as it keeps dipping in the ink! The glamour...😂 #handmadestationery #handmadestamp #stencils #gettingmessy #clumsy
Nice Sunday vibes today before school restarts and something like the old routine returns. In other news I’ve added some of my new designs to the etsy shop. Lots of hares, in time for easter. #newartwork #newdesigns #freshenup #springisintheair #positivevibesonly #gettingthereslowly #hares #haresofinstagram #hareart #paperart #papercutting #papercuts
Quick trip out of Suffolk, returning the eldest to uni. Lots of people out strolling but we breezed in and out, very odd to see Cambridge so quiet on a Saturday. #tooquiet #streetshot #noshopping #cambridgelife
Teeny tiny flowers are definitely my thing. Those colours!❤️ but it doesn’t feel very springlike, I’m hugging the wood burner tonight. #primroses #muscari #miniatures #smallisbeautiful #springflowers🌸 #seasonalflowers #tinythings #smallscale
Today is Smålands Nationaldag - the national day of beautiful Småland. So many things remind me of this magical place, the forests, the lakes, the rocks and boulders and most of all the little red houses in amongst it all. Selma Lagerlöf wrote a wonderful story in The Adventures of Nils in which she described how, at the creation, St Peter begged to help God out by taking over the creation of Småland when the Almighty was making Sweden. While God moved south to create the lush rolling landscapes of Skåne, St Peter threw up the soil in Småland, making mountains, boulders and stony ground, cold snowy pine forests and deep lakes. When God saw his handiwork he was horrified, but its the tough country of the place that makes Smålanders so tough, doughty and persistent, explains the author. And for that we should all be grateful! #smålandsnationaldag #småland #smaland #mysweden #mysweethome #selmalagerlöf
This handcut blackbird wall lamp is also in need of a home. It has a tiny smudge of what looks like pencil on its top rim as it has been on display but its hard to spot and invisible when its on the wall. Its 26cm diameter and approx 17cms deep with an inline switch. Lots of pretty detail and some subtle sparkle on the feathers which are all cut individually. A bargain at £25 plus postage (but I need the space)!! DM if you’d like him. #blackbird #blackbirds #handcut #papercut #handmadelamp #wallart #beautifulanduseful
