How is it June already? Every year I have good intentions writing this blog about my papercutting life and every year once spring comes around I get caught up with the everyday work and forget to update! But when you're busy drawing and sketching and trying out design ideas it is so easy to forget! … Continue reading Papercut gifts – handmade with love

Workshops and weddings

February 13, 2019February 13, 2019 ~ serenpapercuts ~ Leave a comment

Lantern workshops are a new thing for me this year and last week I hosted my first one. It was held in my little studio hut and was a great success, partly I think because we did it one-to-one which gave me and my student Heather plenty of time to work out ideas and put … Continue reading Workshops and weddings

January 3, 2019January 3, 2019 ~ serenpapercuts ~ Leave a comment

So Christmas is over again - I hope yours was a happy one. Now its time to say goodbye to the lights and baubles but although I'll miss them, I love January and all the possibilities it brings. I love a blank diary! My first few days back at work finds me clearing out the … Continue reading Hello January!

I love taking photographs and I really love using them to make videos. I'm still learning but having videoed myself cutting paper using the time-lapse setting - and having seen those videos get hundreds of FB views - I know lots of my customers and followers enjoy seeing my work this way too. Quik is … Continue reading Twinkle twinkle

I know lots of you have asked if I'm doing any workshops next year - well the answer is yes. I've currently booked four dates for them - two papercutting workshops, a lantern making workshop and, under the banner of my hobby business Star, Thistle and Briar, a workshop on making silver clay jewellery. … Continue reading Workshops 2019

Advent arrives..

December 4, 2018 ~ serenpapercuts ~ Leave a comment

December is here already and in the village the Christmas lights are going up. It feels a bit early but I'm still making and packing up other people's Christmas presents, so my own preparation is only just getting going. We celebrated our village Christmas Tree Festival last weekend and that was probably the first time … Continue reading Advent arrives..

Christmas lanterns..

November 19, 2018November 16, 2018 ~ serenpapercuts ~ 2 Comments

I have new lantern designs out just in time for Christmas although the designs I've made are deliberately meant for use all year round. As usual I've used hares and owls as my customers seem to love them so much. But this year I've also made up a design I've been thinking about for a … Continue reading Christmas lanterns..

My Christmas countdown begins..

November 16, 2018 ~ serenpapercuts ~ Leave a comment

Its been so busy here that I've neglected my blog lately. The busy-ness at this time of year is business as usual as I get stock ready for Christmas. Most days I'm working through my job list or cutting in the studio so its good to have a day like today where I can … Continue reading My Christmas countdown begins..

Playing with stamp cutting. I’m hoping to make some pretty notelets with these, just waiting until my sore thumb comes out of its plaster as it keeps dipping in the ink! The glamour...😂 #handmadestationery #handmadestamp #stencils #gettingmessy #clumsy
Nice Sunday vibes today before school restarts and something like the old routine returns. In other news I’ve added some of my new designs to the etsy shop. Lots of hares, in time for easter. #newartwork #newdesigns #freshenup #springisintheair #positivevibesonly #gettingthereslowly #hares #haresofinstagram #hareart #paperart #papercutting #papercuts
Quick trip out of Suffolk, returning the eldest to uni. Lots of people out strolling but we breezed in and out, very odd to see Cambridge so quiet on a Saturday. #tooquiet #streetshot #noshopping #cambridgelife
Teeny tiny flowers are definitely my thing. Those colours!❀ but it doesn’t feel very springlike, I’m hugging the wood burner tonight. #primroses #muscari #miniatures #smallisbeautiful #springflowers🌾 #seasonalflowers #tinythings #smallscale
Today is SmÄlands Nationaldag - the national day of beautiful SmÄland. So many things remind me of this magical place, the forests, the lakes, the rocks and boulders and most of all the little red houses in amongst it all. Selma Lagerlöf wrote a wonderful story in The Adventures of Nils in which she described how, at the creation, St Peter begged to help God out by taking over the creation of SmÄland when the Almighty was making Sweden. While God moved south to create the lush rolling landscapes of SkÄne, St Peter threw up the soil in SmÄland, making mountains, boulders and stony ground, cold snowy pine forests and deep lakes. When God saw his handiwork he was horrified, but its the tough country of the place that makes SmÄlanders so tough, doughty and persistent, explains the author. And for that we should all be grateful! #smÄlandsnationaldag #smÄland #smaland #mysweden #mysweethome #selmalagerlöf
This handcut blackbird wall lamp is also in need of a home. It has a tiny smudge of what looks like pencil on its top rim as it has been on display but its hard to spot and invisible when its on the wall. Its 26cm diameter and approx 17cms deep with an inline switch. Lots of pretty detail and some subtle sparkle on the feathers which are all cut individually. A bargain at £25 plus postage (but I need the space)!! DM if you’d like him. #blackbird #blackbirds #handcut #papercut #handmadelamp #wallart #beautifulanduseful
